Wacky Wireless Designs: Futuristic Concept Phones

Posted on Oct 28th 2013

These concept phones may be impractical, silly, or just plain ugly. But if we saw them on the market, it would be a nice break from the smartphone standard we’ve come to know so well – slim and rectangular with very few, if any, buttons on the front and a camera at the top in the back. Read on for some smartphone inspiration.

1. Kambala: This phone is all about transformation. A piece in the center pops out to create a clip that attaches to your ear. Then the whole phones changes its appearance to match your skin tone while you’re wearing it.

2. Phillips Fluid:  Samsung and LG have experimented with wickedly curved screens, but this phone concept takes the term bendable to a whole new level. The phone, if made, would be so flexible it could be rolled to wear as a bracelet.

3. Mobile Script Phone: This phone features a roll-out screen that stiffens when voltage is sent through it, making it compact and ideal for watching movies.

4. Mobikoma: This phone is composed of 18 blocks that can be used individually or collectively so you can change the size or shape of your phone.

5. Rollerphone: Smartphone watches are hitting the market, but we aren’t so sure about this roll-out bracelet phone. Go go gadget!

6. Maple Phone: Wood you buy this phone? Yeah, neither wood we. It features a touch-sensitive keypad and a camera.

7. Bubble Phone: Maximizing available real estate, the front and back of this phone have screens, with a tactile keyboard on the lower half of the back screen.

8. Phonebloks: This phone aims to kick us of the habit of tossing our phones for the newer model every year or two. It features blocks that can be replaced when the technology is improved or when a specific part stops working. You could theoretically have one phone forever.
