MicroUSB 3.0 – The New Standard Connector?

Posted on Mar 26th 2014

It’s not often that we see a brand-new cable and connector type make it to market. But two popular new devices feature a brand new microUSB 3.0 port – and we are sure that there will be more to come.

MicroUSB 3.0 is a new cable and port style available in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone and the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet. MicroUSB 3.0 allows for much faster data transfer between a mobile device and a PC when using a USB 3.0 port and cable. This new cable design also allows for faster charging through a USB 3.0-enabled computer port. USB 2.0 ports generally provide up to 500mA of power while USB 3.0 will increase your charge rate by 80% to up to 900mA, which makes charging from a computer port more akin to using a wall outlet charger.

MicroUSB 3.0 ports are backwards compatible with standard microUSB cables, meaning you can use a standard microUSB cable with your microUSB 3.0 device. However, when using a standard cable you will not experience the faster data transfer and charge rate offered by 3.0 cables.

We currently offer two options for microUSB 3.0 cables – both are sturdy and durable cables that will provide you all of the benefits of this new technology with your new phone. Stock up with cables for your work, your car or just for home by visiting the links to the right.
