iPhone 14 Release: Ten Things to Know

1New Starting Lineup: With Apple’s latest release, you’ll have your choice between the standard and Pro models - both available in two screen sizes, 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches. Missing from the lineup will be the iPhone mini, which was discontinued.

2. New and Improved Hardware: Equipped with Apple’s new A16 processor and the latest Bluetooth 5.3 technology, these devices get a boost in audio quality, while power consumption has been reduced by about 20%. The improved battery life will allow a better listening experience and longer streaming sessions.

3. Dynamic Island: Apple’s new “Dynamic Island” feature is a front-and-center information hub. The pill-shaped display at the top of device allows for interactive alerts, notifications, and quick access to certain apps.

4. Satellite Connectivity: Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite feature activates when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, allowing iPhone owners to summon help from just about anywhere on the planet.

5. Always-On Display:  Available on the iPhone Pro models, this new feature lets users see key information at a glance - including the time, iOS 16 lock screen widgets, and live activities. You may consider a privacy screen protector if you plan to use this feature.

6. Brighter Screen: The iPhone Pro models now feature displays with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, which is two times brighter than the iPhone 13. A brighter screen is very useful in high-contrast outdoor environments, like the beach or a park.

7. Camera Upgrades: With a 48MP sensor, ultra-wide lens, and the ability to record in a 4K “Cinematic Mode”, you’ll capture incredibly high-resolution photos and video.

8. Action Mode: Another new camera feature available on both the iPhone and 14 Pro models, this mode allows users to shoot stable video during intense motion - like running or working out.

9. Will Your Cables Work?  Yes. Despite rumors that the iPhone 14 or 14 Pro would see a switch to USB-C or wireless only, Apple stays with the standard lighting port it introduced with the iPhone 5.

10. Will Your Case Fit? It depends. If you’re opting for the iPhone 14, your old iPhone 13 case will work. However, when it comes to the iPhone 14 Pro models, you’ll need a new case. The Pro models are slightly taller and wider, and also have a larger camera area. Lastly, since the iPhone 14 Plus is a new addition to the lineup, you’ll need to grab a new case.
