7 Productivity Tips for Working From Home

We know it’s not always easy to stay focused while working from home, especially in today's climate! At CAFL, we have been applying these tips with our staff:

  1. Keep the same morning routine: Get ready as though you are heading into work. In other words: put those pajamas back into your drawer, it’s time for real clothes.
  2. Move your body: Exercise has been proven to be a great tool for reducing stress and improving overall mood. Break up your day with a quick walk around the neighborhood.
  3. Tidy up: Before you start working, make sure your workspace and room is tidy. If it feels like a mess, you’re going to want to clean when you’re working – a productivity killer.
  4. (Don’t) hold the phone: Rather than holding your phone up to your ear, invest in a good headset. You’ll be amazed at how much you can get done being hands free!
  5. Go dark: If you’re looking to power through a project, you need to eliminate distractions. Silence your phone, sign off Slack, close your inbox – even for just 25 minutes. You’ll be amazed at what you can get done without all those pings!
  6. Too many emails? Hop on a video call: We all know that there are times when a meeting could have been an email, but sometimes, connecting face-to-face is more effective than sending and receiving dozens of emails and instant messages. It’s also nice to see your coworkers' faces again! If you’re looking improved video quality, consider a webcam, we’ve got you covered.
  7. Make a to-do list for tomorrow: Before signing off, write out your list of priorities to tackle the next morning. You’ll start your day with direction, which, if you’re not a morning person, can be quite useful.
