5 Ways to Make the Most of Video Calls

Posted on Jun 29th 2020

What is the most common side effect of working from home? Video calls. Whether you’re balancing work with homeschooling, or trying to keep your cat off your laptop, an afternoon of video calls can make or break your day. Here are some quick tips that we recommend you implement to make the most of your video conferences:

  1. Record your meeting. If you’re heading into a meeting with a lot of little details, rather than racing to try and write it all down, you can record the meeting to review later.

  2. Make sure you’re clear. Are coworkers telling you that you’re fuzzy? Not having a crisp image can be distracting. If your computer doesn’t come with a camera (or it’s an old model), consider an upgrade to a webcam. Here are some of our in stock options.

  3. Mute everyone. If you’re in a big huddle of 10 people or more, background noises can make it difficult for the one talking to be clearly understood. Luckily, if you're the host, you can easily mute those with distracting background noise.

  4. Invest in a good headset. Are coworkers complaining about an echo from your side? Having trouble hearing coworkers? If you’ve answered yes to either of these, you may need a headset. Check out some of our selection here.

  5. Bad connection? Turn the video off. If your coworker is going in and out, ask them to turn off their video. This change relieves the pressure on the connection and often results in clearer sound.

Working from home can be tricky, but your video calls don’t have to be!
