Fast Charge Technology: 0 to 100% in 60 Seconds

Posted on Apr 23rd 2014

Smartphones and tablets bring the world to your fingertips – providing nearly limitless access to information and immediate communication. But the main challenge to true wireless freedom is still your smartphone’s battery. What if you could get a full charge in under 60 seconds instead of two hours?

Enter StoreDot, a Tel Aviv-based startup. They’ve created a new technology that can fully charge a phone’s battery under 60 seconds. To achieve this result, they’re using a new battery chemistry which features nanotechnology derived from bio-organic material. The electrical properties allow the battery to charge much faster than conventional lithium-ion batteries, while still maintaining a similar discharge rate.

Even though StoreDot has a working demo, there are still major challenges to overcome. StoreDot’s battery is physically larger than the one inside Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and its capacity to hold a charge is less. Despite these daunting challenges, StoreDot is confident they can conquer them within a year. From there, they’ll look to pass the testing phase for safety and longevity. This all leads to an expected mass production date of late 2016.

We will be closely watching this developing technology. But in the meantime, make sure you’re charging your devices at the fastest possible speeds available now. 2400 mA, or 2.4 A is the fastest charge rate currently available on the market.

For your car, the Scosche Dual Port Car Charger will charge two devices at 2400 mAh at the same time so you can power up your phone and tablet quickly and simultaneously.

For charging at home or the office, Apple's 12W AC Adapter is perfect for a quick charge for your iPhone, smartphone or iPad Air.
